DataTel

Case Study / Technology

How DataTel turned one enterprise client's story into a trust-building video system.

DataTel had decades of real experience, but no testimonials and no way to prove it to the enterprise clients it needed most, the kind with longer sales cycles and higher stakes. We built a documentary-style testimonial around one real enterprise client, cut into a long-form film, a mid-form version, and two short-form pieces, so DataTel could put real proof in front of prospects everywhere their sales process actually happens.

The Hook
The Trust Gap

Sixty-three years in business. DataTel still had to prove it to the enterprise clients that mattered most.

A national engineering and consulting firm with more than 100 locations and 4,000 team members was quietly drowning in its own growth, acquiring companies faster than its IT environment could handle.

Different tools, different vendors, no standardization, and technical debt piling up with every deal. That company found its way to DataTel almost by accident, a conversation that started with no sales pitch at all. DataTel had the experience to solve exactly this kind of chaos. What they didn’t have yet was a way to prove that to the next enterprise client considering the same leap of faith.
The Client
About DataTel

A managed IT and security partner built for companies too complex for a one-size-fits-all provider.

DataTel has been providing managed IT, cybersecurity, and networking services since 1962, 63 years of history, and now serves more than 2,000 customers with a team of about 38, backed by more than 100 five-star Google reviews. DataTel takes a security-first approach to IT, building real partnerships instead of selling pre-packaged tiers, and stepping in as either a full IT department or a backup layer for a client’s existing internal team.

Even with that track record, DataTel was newer to winning larger, enterprise-level clients specifically, a segment with longer sales cycles, higher stakes, and a real need for proof before anyone signs.

The Challenge
No Proof, Long Sales Cycles

Decades of real work, and nothing to show a skeptical enterprise buyer.

DataTel had genuinely solved hard problems for real clients. The challenge was that none of it was documented anywhere a new enterprise prospect could see it.
01
No Social Proof
Despite decades in business, DataTel had no testimonials or case studies to show enterprise prospects weighing a long, high-stakes decision.
02
A Longer, Harder Sales Cycle
Enterprise clients take longer to decide and expect more proof before trusting a new partner with something as critical as their IT and security infrastructure.
03
Being the "Newer" Option
Even with a real track record, DataTel was newer to the enterprise segment specifically, competing against bigger, more recognized names.
04
The Stakes

Without real proof from a real enterprise client, DataTel risked losing longer, higher-value deals to competitors with more visible credibility.

The Strategy
One Story, Four Ways to Use It

Turn one enterprise client's real story into a testimonial system, not just a single video.

Rather than a generic brand video, we built the project around one real enterprise win and gave DataTel a system to use it everywhere.

Lead With a Real Enterprise Win

We built the project around one real enterprise client, a national engineering and consulting firm, and their actual experience working with DataTel.

Documentary, Not a Script

We interviewed the client’s own IT leadership documentary-style, capturing their real story of scaling through acquisitions and stabilizing a chaotic IT environment.

Built for Every Length and Every Room

We built a long-form film plus a mid-form cut and two short-form versions, so DataTel could use the same story in a sales meeting, a conference booth, or a social post.

Make the Complex Visual

We used graphics, animation, 3D work, stock footage, and AI-generated imagery to help visualize the technical parts of the story a straight interview alone couldn’t capture.
Production
Flying In the Story

A three-person crew, one rented space, one real conversation.

Getting this story right meant bringing the actual client to the table, not recreating their experience secondhand.

STEP 01 / BRINGING THE CLIENT IN

Flying the Client to Austin

DataTel flew their enterprise client’s team out to Austin, and we rented a space to film the interview properly rather than shooting it remotely.
STEP 02 / THE INTERVIEW

Documenting the Real Story

We sat down with the client’s own IT leadership to document, in their own words, the real problem, the acquisitions, the technical debt, and how DataTel solved it.
STEP 03 / B-ROLL AND VISUAL SUPPORT

Supporting the Interview Visually

We captured supporting b-roll and paired it with stock footage and AI-generated visuals to help tell the more technical parts of the story clearly.
Post Production
Building the Trust System

One real story, cut four ways.

We edited the interview and supporting footage into four deliverables: a long-form documentary piece, a mid-form version, and two short-form cuts, each suited to a different room, a sales meeting, a conference, a social feed, so DataTel had one real story working across every channel instead of a single video living in one place.
Graphics, animation, and 3D work helped visualize the technical side of the transformation, standardizing a chaotic, multi-company IT environment, in a way that made sense to viewers who aren’t IT people themselves.
The Results

Trust everywhere DataTel shows up.

This project wasn’t built to chase a view count. It was built to close a credibility gap with enterprise buyers, and it worked.
EVERY CHANNEL

One Story, Every Platform

DataTel is now using the videos on their newsletter, website, and social media, at conferences and events, and inside the sales pipeline itself.
REAL PROOF

A Credibility Gap, Closed

For the first time, DataTel has a real enterprise client telling their own story, instead of relying on claims alone.
SALES-READY

Built Into the Sales Cycle

The video system is now part of how DataTel’s team overcomes objections and builds trust earlier in a long enterprise sales conversation.
CLIENT LOVED IT

A Team That Went Beyond the Brief

Per DataTel’s own written review, the team was especially glad Mosaic ran with custom graphics ideas to help tell the story better.
From the Client / Testimonial

"What really stood out was their willingness to go beyond the brief. When we had ideas for custom graphics to better tell our story, they ran with it, and the final product is genuinely impressive. If you're looking for a video production partner who brings both professionalism and creative flexibility to the table, Mosaic is the real deal."

Takeaways
Why It Worked

This worked because we let a real client build the trust DataTel couldn't claim on its own.

Enterprise buyers don’t trust a pitch. They trust another company that already took the leap.
01 / SOCIAL PROOF

Let the Client Tell It

A real enterprise client explaining their own transformation builds more trust than any claim DataTel could make about itself.
02 / MULTIPLE FORMATS

One Story, Every Length

Building long, mid, and short cuts from a single shoot meant the story could work in a boardroom and on a phone screen.
03 / VISUALIZE THE COMPLEX

Make the Technical Feel Clear

Graphics, animation, and supporting visuals turned a complicated IT transformation story into something anyone could follow.
04 / DISTRIBUTION

Build It to Travel

A testimonial only works if it shows up everywhere the sales cycle happens, the video, the newsletter, the conference booth, the pipeline itself.
