Champion Homes

Case Study / Home Building

How a nine-month documentary refreshed Champion Homes' brand story from the ground up.

Champion Homes needed a refreshed brand story to introduce a new, contemporary-style prefab home, and years of internal, ad hoc footage weren't going to cut it. We followed a single build for nine months, from breaking ground to offsite prefabrication to final on-site finishes, interviewing everyone involved along the way. The result is a cinematic documentary now helping Champion build trust with buyers, builders, and developers across its entire family of brands.

The Hook
From Black and White to Move-In Ready

A floor plan is just black and white paper until someone builds it, in real time, in front of a camera.

A home starts as a floor plan on paper, black and white, flat, and abstract.

Somewhere between that page and a family walking through the finished rooms, colors get chosen, materials get selected, and an idea becomes a place someone can actually imagine living in. For a contemporary-style prefab home, that journey also has to overcome something else: the assumption that factory-built means lower quality, or a shortcut. Champion Homes needed to show, not just say, that a home built offsite and finished on-site could be every bit as considered as one built board by board on location.

The Client
About Champion Homes

A nationwide leader in factory-built homes, with more than 3 million homes behind it.

Champion Homes is a nationwide builder of manufactured, modular, and park model homes, operating under a family of 24 brands with more than 8,400 employees behind its “A Smarter Way to Build” approach. The company has built more than 3 million factory-built homes to date, working through a network of developers, retailers, and community partners across the country.

This project centered on a single, contemporary-style modular home build outside Austin, Texas, following the developers, factory production teams, and interior designers who each played a role in bringing it from a floor plan to a finished, move-in ready home.

The Challenge
The Internal Footage Problem

Years of internal footage couldn't tell a story this big.

Champion had a genuinely new product to introduce and a brand story that hadn’t kept pace with it. Explaining the full process clearly, and credibly, was its own challenge.
01
An Outdated Brand Story
Champion’s existing content leaned on internal, ad hoc footage that didn’t reflect the quality or craftsmanship of the homes themselves.
02
A New Product, Unproven
A new, contemporary-style prefab home line needed a way to build trust with buyers and partners who weren’t yet familiar with what modern prefab construction could actually look like.
03
A Process Nobody Could See
Most buyers and partners never see how a prefab home comes together, breaking ground, offsite factory construction, final on-site finishing, so skepticism about quality and speed was common.
04
The stakes
Without a real, credible look at the process, Champion risked losing trust to the assumption that manufactured and modular homes are a lesser product than traditional stick-built construction.
The Strategy
Documenting the Whole Build, Start to Finish

A nine-month documentary built around one real home, from breaking ground to move-in ready.

Champion needed more than a highlight reel of a finished house. They needed the full, credible story of how it actually gets built.

Follow One Build, Completely

Rather than a finished-home walkthrough, we followed a single contemporary-style home from breaking ground through offsite prefabrication to final on-site construction and finishes.

Every Voice in the Process

We interviewed everyone involved, developers, factory teams, interior designers, capturing each perspective on what it actually takes to build a home this way.

Built for Every Length

We crafted long, mid, and short-form versions plus social cutdowns, so the same story could work as a full brand film or a scroll-stopping clip.

Stay Nimble With the Real Timeline

Because permitting and inspections dictate a home building schedule, not a shot list, we built our filming plan to adapt around the real pace of construction rather than forcing it into a fixed schedule.
Production
Filming a Build That Doesn't Wait

Twenty-plus shoot days spread across nine months, on the project's own schedule.

A home build doesn’t run on a production calendar. It runs on permitting, inspections, and weather, so our production plan had to move with it.

STEP 01 / THE TIMELINE

Nine Months, Start to Finish

We filmed over nine months and more than 20 shoot days, from breaking ground through offsite prefabrication to the final on-site finishes.
STEP 02 / THE CREW

A Flexible Crew for a Flexible Schedule

Crew size flexed between two and five people depending on what stage of construction was happening on a given day.
STEP 03 / THE INTERVIEWS

Every Partner, In Their Own Words

We captured conversations with the developers, factory production teams, and interior designers who each played a role in the build, not just a single spokesperson.

Post Production
Cutting One Build Into Every Length

Editing built to work everywhere Champion needed it.

We cut the footage with dynamic, cinematic camera language, moving well beyond the internal footage Champion had relied on in the past, and edited the story into long, mid, and short-form versions, plus additional social cutdowns.

Because the footage was built to be reusable from the start, it now supports Champion’s marketing across its full family of 24 brands, not just the single property where it was filmed.

The Results

From internal footage to a brand-wide asset.

This project wasn’t built to chase a view count. It was built to give Champion a credible story it could use everywhere, and it worked.
LEADS

A Story That Builds Trust

Champion is now using the film across its properties and brands to help generate leads and speed up trust with prospective buyers and partners.
FULL FUNNEL

Built Into the Marketing System

The long, mid, and short cuts now support Champion’s marketing funnels, not just a single placement on one page.
24 BRANDS

One Story, Many Properties

Because the footage was built to be reusable, it now supports multiple brands across Champion’s portfolio, not just the property where it was filmed.
PROCESS PROVEN

The Whole Build, on Camera

For the first time, Champion has a complete, cinematic record of a build from breaking ground to finished home, replacing years of relying on internal, ad hoc footage.
From the Film / Brand Documentary Narrative

"I'm curating a home that will allow those who walk through it to feel and imagine themselves in it."

Takeaways
Why It Worked

This worked because we filmed the process, not just the finished home.

Trust in a new way of building is earned by showing the work, not describing it.
01 / TRUST

Show the Real Process

Filming breaking ground through final finishes builds more trust in prefab construction than any finished walkthrough could.
02 / EVERY VOICE

Let Every Partner Speak

Interviews with developers, factory teams, and designers gave the story more credibility than a single spokesperson ever could.
03 / FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE

Build Around the Real Timeline

A nine-month, permit-driven schedule meant staying nimble mattered more than sticking to a fixed shot list.
04 / REUSABLE ASSET

One Shoot, Every Brand

Building long, mid, and short cuts from the start meant one project could support Champion’s entire family of brands, not just one property.
